Because of dramatic advances in veterinary medicine over the past decade, many types of advanced monitoring equipment has been adapted from human medicine to use for our beloved pets. These devices are an important part in treatment of chronic diseases such as kidney and heart failure and are also routinely used to monitor vital functions for surgical, emergency and intensive care patients. Atascadero Pet Center is equipped with state of the art monitoring devices in order to address these needs.
Electrocardiograph (EKG) Monitoring is a simple and powerful tool for detecting abnormalities in the electrical activity of the heart. High risk patients requiring anesthesia and many critical care patients may need EKG monitoring in order to detect underlying heart disease.
Blood Pressure Monitoring is provided by Oscillmate electronic monitors with specially designed cuffs for accuracy and the comfort of our patients. This procedure is not invasive and very few animals object to having their blood pressure taken.
Oxygen Saturation Monitoring offers a painless, easy to use method to measure the amount of red blood cells in the bloodstream that are carrying oxygen to the body. Pulse oximetry is routinely used on critical care and surgical patients by simply attaching a plastic clip to the pet while monitoring.
