Dr. April Bessett was born in Illinois and raised in Central Florida. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and in Psychology from the University of Central Florida. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies in 2008. She completed her clinical year at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.

She joined the Atascadero Pet Hospital & Emergency Center in September 2008 where she practices small animal medicine and surgery.

Along the way, she fell in love, adopted two puppies from Grenada, a kitten from Illinois, and made the move to the beautiful Central Coast with her sweetheart, Elias, who is also a veterinarian. They were married in 2009.
