Atascadero Pet Center is well equipped for the eye care needs for many of our patients. The eye is often said to be the window into the brain, and many systemic diseases may present with eye problems. In response to the need for animal eye care on the central coast we have obtained specialized equipment, and training to help us provide the best care possible. To aid us in testing for glaucoma we us a digital aplanation tonometer called a TONO-PEN. Eyelid masses are a common condition in our older canine patients, and at our hospital we use a nitrous oxide cryosurgical unit to help us treat these tumors without radical eyelid resection. To evaluate the Fundus a Pan Optic Ophthalmoscope, direct and indirect ophthalmoscopy help us assess the back of the eye for evidence of blindness, and systemic diseases. A slit lamp is also available to evaluate the eye under high magnification.
Common eye conditions treated at our hospital include: Glaucoma, Eye lid tumor removal, Cherry eye surgery, Entropion surgery, Corneal ulcer management, Corneal laceration repair, Cryo-epilation, and foreign body removal.
